Hinomaru

The vertical to horizontal ratio is set at 2:3, the disc is to be placed at the exact center and the diameter of the disc is equal three-fifths of vertical measurement of the flag. The current design- red disc in the center of white field-was originally adopted by Tokugawa government in 1854 to be used on flag for Japan's ship. There was the done in order to distinguish Japan's ship from foreign ship, and was not necessarily intended to stand as Japan's national flag.
