KYOTO MAR. 30 (Thu)
Our journey will continue in Kyoto, the heart of Japanese tradition. You will feel that you have time slipped into the world one thousand year ago, when visiting first time in Kyoto.
Our first stop today is Arashiyama, the main street and the area around the famous Togetsu-kyo( bridge ) have all makings of a classic Japanese tourist trap.
Next stop is Golden Pavilion, is one of Japan's best-known sites. The main hall, covered in brilliant gold leaf, shining above its reflecting pond is truly spectacular. The original building was built in 1307 as a retirement villa tor shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. His son converted it into a temple. In 1950 a young monk consummated his obsession with the temple by burning it to the ground. In 1955 a full reconstruction was completed that followed the original design, but the gold-foil covering was extended to the lower floors.
We proceed to Kiyomizu temple. Kiyomizu temple is one of the most popular and most enjoyable temples. The main hall has a huge verandah that is supported by pillars and just out over the hilside. Just downhill from and slightly to the north of Kiyomizu temple is one of Kyoto's vloveliest restored neighbourhoods, the Ninen-zaka and Sannen-zaka, literally "two year hill" and "Three year Hill". These two charming streets are lined with old wooden houses, traditional shops an restaurants.
In the evening you will be taken to Gion "Geisha district" Those who have seen "Memoirs of Geisha" will be fascinated by its shooting spots. We stay in Kyoto for the night. -
